SCORE BAJA 1000 PARTICIPANTS INVITED TO GIVE BACK TO THE PEOPLE OF BAJA
Chase crews and race fans can help orphaned and low-income Baja kids afflicted with cancer at a very special taco stand.
During the 2009 edition of the world famous SCORE Tecate Baja 1000 desert race, November 20-21, fans and race chase crews are invited to a unique taco stand at the edge of the race course, Race Mile 205 /395, just off Highway 3 near Borrego Junction to enjoy delicious tacos with all proceeds benefiting Tijuana’s Castro-Limon Cancer Foundation.
Locos Mocos, the extreme location desert racing pit crew founded in 1997, was looking for a way to give back to the gracious people of Baja California for welcoming desert racers from around the world year after year to participate in this world-class event. Helping the Castro-Limon Foundation was the answer. Generating funds to aid Baja kids with cancer was an ideal opportunity. They need so much and are faced with so little hope. So the “Fighting Cancer With Tacos” project was born.
According to Locos Mocos, it’s an easy way for desert race fans to say thank you to the people of Baja. Similar to the efforts of well-known philanthropic Baja racers Malcom Smith and Nick Baldwin, it’s a way to help make sure that international racers are welcome in Baja well into the future. The more you can eat, the more you can help.
Financial support for the taco stand project has come from the best of the desert racing nation, including MasterCraft Safety, the Scaroni Family, West Australian Desert Racing Team, Checkers Off Road , Memo Sagastume, ATT Systems, Dion & Sons, Inc., Aeromedevac Air Ambulance, BajaBound Mexican Insurance, Balboa Ambulance, Mr. D’s Painting/Donaldo Marteen, Missing Lenk Motorsports, Off Road Warehouse, Noah Ostanik, Dave Simpsons “No Bad Days” Racing, Steve Sullivan Excavating, Tony Tellier – El Chinero, Unique Lighting Systems, Chris Wilson Racing and more.
According to the Tijuana-based Castro-Limon Foundation, cancer is the second biggest cause of death for children in Mexico, especially kids between ages of 5 and 14 years old. For the little ones who are orphans or have little money, it’s a bleak situation. But the Castro-Limon Foundation is there to help.
Spectators, crews, everyone is invited to come to this unique taco stand between San Matias Pass and San Felipe. Fabulous tacos will be available for a modest donation with all proceeds benefiting the Castro-Limon Foundation.
Locos Mocos is a voluntary pit crew helping racers in all of the SCORE promoted Baja desert races. Locos Mocos (translation, “Crazy Boogers”) have aided literally hundreds of racers make it to the finish line without ever charging anyone for anything. They “fix stuff free”. This special project is their way of giving back to the wonderful people of Baja California who generously host the famous SCORE Tecate Baja 1000, 500 and 250 desert races.
