SCORE’s 38th Year Culminates With SCORE Off-Roadsman Awards And Presentation of 2011 SCORE Desert Series Class Champions

LOS ANGELES—Following a first-time public, on-line voting by several thousand racers, crews and fans for special SCORE Off-Roadsman awards, SCORE International will announce the winners during the upcoming 2011 SCORE Awards Night on Saturday.

Honoring the world’s foremost desert racing series the event is returning to Southern California for the second consecutive year and will be held at the boutique-style Atrium Hotel in Irvine, California.

At the Atrium Hotel, located adjacent to the John Wayne Airport, nearly 400 SCORE racers, family, friends, crews, sponsors and media will bask in the Southern California sunshine as the SCORE Awards Night will honor the 38-year history and fame of the name which continues as the standard for desert racing worldwide for nearly four decades.

This year will mark the second straight year that the annual SCORE Awards Night has been held at the popular Atrium Hotel and the second time the historic evening has been held in Southern California since 2000.

Individuals as well as manufacturers and organizations will be honored through 11 distinct awards, nine of whose winners were decided by the first-time public, on-line vote. Among the voted SCORE Off-Roadsman awards to be presented are MasterCraft Safety SCORE Rookie of the Year, SCORE Contingency Company of the Year, SCORE Pit Support Team of the Year, SCORE Mechanic of the Year and SCORE Person of the Year. The two SCORE Off-Roadsman Awards determined by points are the SCORE Engine Builder of the Year and the SCORE Original Buggy Chassis Manufacturer of the Year.

“This was another memorable year in SCORE desert racing history and we look forward to celebrating with those who played such a major role in the achievements of the 2011 SCORE Desert Series,” said Sal Fish, the SCORE CEO/President who has been part of the desert racing organization for nearly four decades. “We are very excited as to how well our first on-line public voting was received for the SCORE Off-Roadsman Awards and are anxious to announce the winners of the nine different awards as well as honor all of our season class point champions.”

In addition to special SCORE Achievement Awards and the 29 Pro, 6 Sportsman class champions and three overall point champions who will be honored in at the Atrium Hotel, another highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the annual SCORE Off-Roadsman Awards.

Also an exciting element of the diverse program will be the presentation of the SCORE Toyota Milestone Awards. As it has for 26 years, the coveted Toyota Milestone Awards are presented to those drivers in four-wheel vehicle classes who finish every required mile-1,762.02 miles-of the 2011 SCORE Desert Series. A total of 21 racers qualified in the five-race 2011 SCORE Desert Series, tying for the second-most in the history of the award. The awards will be presented by Les Unger, Toyota’s National Motorsports Manager.

The evening will include a colorful video/photographic tribute to the 2011 SCORE Desert Series produced by Blue C Advertising, highlighting the still photography of Trackside Photo.

A pre-awards reception will start the festivities at 6:00PM, followed by the dinner, a special tribute to the 2011 SCORE season and presentations at 7:00PM.
