Biography

Austin's Charles Dorrance continues to battle in SCORE's competitive Trophy Truck Spec class, bringing decades of desert racing experience to every starting line. The 50-year-old veteran captured his career-defining victory at the 2019 SCORE Baja 500, claiming the Trophy Truck Spec class championship in the grueling Ensenada desert race that tests both man and machine across Baja California's unforgiving terrain.

Dorrance's recent campaigns showcase his persistence and mechanical expertise in one of off-road racing's most challenging divisions. At the 2022 SCORE Baja 1000, he wheeled his No. 299 entry to a solid sixth-place finish despite encountering the typical obstacles that define Baja racing. "There was a short bottleneck in the Summit that bunched us up," Dorrance reflected after the race. "That stinks because you work so hard to get some distance. Then we stopped for about fifteen minutes to tighten the header."

His methodical approach to desert racing emphasizes preparation and adaptability, essential qualities for navigating the unpredictable conditions from Ensenada's coastal terrain to the technical mountain sections. Dorrance's commitment to the sport and respect for SCORE's challenging courses makes him a respected competitor in the Trophy Truck Spec ranks.

Jones, Dorrance, and Price at War for TT Spec Win | December 2019 Issue

Although the SCORE Trophy Truck Spec class has been one of the fastest-growing classes in the past two seasons, the competition this year has been among Sara Price, Charles Dorrance, and A.J. Jones. Each has finished in the top four all season and were battling closely for points towards a championship. With little room to finish no better than in the top three, A.J.
