Biography

San Antonio's Rod Lewis continues to demonstrate his mastery of SCORE desert racing, building on a distinguished career highlighted by his second-place Trophy Truck Spec finish at the legendary 2018 SCORE Baja 500. Competing in the grueling 542-mile test through Baja California, Lewis and co-driver Clint LaRue piloted their #277 Jimco-Chevy to an impressive podium performance, finishing just minutes behind race winner Bryce Swaim after over 13 hours of punishing desert terrain.

The veteran competitor's strategic approach to desert racing proved crucial during that memorable Baja 500 campaign. "I only pre-ran the first 30 miles, but my navigator pre-ran the whole course, so that was really helpful," Lewis explained after the race. His tactical decision-making shone through treacherous conditions, including navigating around five stuck trucks in a challenging silt section. "We skated by a silt section that had five trucks stuck. We were able to get by all of them, so we lucked out on that one."

Lewis's methodical racing style emphasizes consistency and smart line selection over pure speed, a philosophy that has earned him respect throughout the SCORE racing community and positioned him among the sport's most reliable competitors.
