At 73 years old, Lee Banning continues to defy conventional expectations in SCORE desert racing, proving that experience and determination can triumph over youth. This Arizona veteran achieved remarkable success with a podium finish at the 2021 SCORE Baja 1000, capturing third place in the Trophy Truck Spec class, demonstrating elite-level competitiveness in the world's most grueling desert race.

Banning's prowess extends beyond the legendary 1000-mile challenge. He earned another podium finish with third place in class at the 2017 SCORE Baja 500, showcasing consistent top-tier performance in desert racing's historic classics. His versatility across different categories is evident in his 2011 SCORE Lites class victory at the Baja 1000, where he teamed with Lee Banning Jr. to claim the championship.

The 2017 Baja 1000 highlighted Banning's endurance and tactical racing skills, as he and his co-drivers completed the punishing course in their Geiser-Chevy, finishing 22nd overall among all professional cars and trucks while maintaining a competitive 44.59 mph average speed. Racing alongside family members including his son Lee Banning Jr., Banning represents a multi-generational commitment to SCORE desert racing excellence, cementing his legacy as one of the sport's most respected competitors.
