Smith achieved the ultimate milestone in desert racing with overall victories at the prestigious SCORE Baja 1000, conquering the grueling Baja Peninsula course that has challenged racers for decades. His championship resume extends beyond the Baja 1000 to include both overall and class victories at the SCORE Baja 500 in 1978 and 1979, demonstrating consistent excellence across SCORE's premier events.

Operating from his Escondido, California base, Smith showcased remarkable versatility by competing successfully in multiple disciplines throughout his career.
