ENSENADA, Baja California, Mexico—Bryce Menzies is on fire. He is the current champion of the SCORE Trophy Truck, also the winner of the last SCORE Baja 500 in the premier class of desert racing, making him the rival to beat next week in the BFGoodrich Tires 56th SCORE Baja 500 against 33 superb rivals.
Since its creation in 1994 by the mind of the “Off-Road Godfather”, Sal Fish, the SCORE Trophy Truck has revolutionized the sport in Mexico and the United States, with a total of 150 official races to date, 147 in desert, 3 in short track or stadium events, with a high percentage of those events held in the Baja California peninsula.
A total of 18 racers entered in the SCORE Trophy Truck for this Baja 500, combined to win 87 races out of the total 150 races organized by SCORE in the 30-year history of this class.
Of those racers, five have captured the SCORE Trophy Truck championship in 15 of the 30 seasons in the class, with Tim Herbst and Rob MacCachren leading the way with four crowns, while Bryce Menzies and Luke McMillin have two titles.
MENZIES, THE NEW KING OF THE 500
Bryce Menzies, 36, Las Vegas, is one of the drivers registered in the SCORE Trophy Truck for this SCORE Baja 500, who has more victories in this race with 4, within "The Monsters of the Desert".
Menzies, who won the SCORE Baja 500 in 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2023, will be looking for his fifth title in this race in his No. 1 Mason-built all-wheel drive Ford Raptor, with Oren Anderson as his stellar navigator.
In 2011 and 2023, Bryce Menzies won the SCORE Trophy Truck championship and will be looking to improve on his fourth-place finish in the King Shocks 37th SCORE San Felipe 250 next week to improve on his current position in the 2024 SCORE World Desert Championship.
THE G.O.A.T., THE GREATEST IN THE DESERT
Rob MacCachren, 59, Las Vegas, is the greatest winner in the 30-year history of the SCORE Trophy Trucks with 20 career race victories. The G.O.A.T., who has over 300 career race wins in his off-road history, has beaten the best desert racers in the sport, like Ivan "Ironman" Stewart, Walker Evans, Larry “Lightning” Ragland, Robby Gordon, Dan Smith, and Larry Roeseler.
Big Mac has triumphed in his class in the SCORE Baja 500 seven times, with three of those in the SCORE Trophy Truck (1996, 2018, and 2022). The Mac Attack is now sporting the Fastball Racing team colors aboard the No. 11 AWD Chevrolet Silverado built by Jimco.
MacCachren is considered as the Michael Jordan of Off-Road, for his victories and championships, overcoming different eras and always adapting to new eras.
AMPUDIA, THE NEW AZTEC SENSATION
Alan Ampudia, 31, Ensenada, Baja California, is the current leader of the 2024 SCORE World Desert Championship in the SCORE Trophy Truck, after winning the King Shocks 37th San Felipe 250, with which he is now looking for a new encounter with history in this SCOREBaja 500.
Ampudia, of Team Papas, is in search of a victory that has not reached his trophy cabinet, but has been cherished in recent years, so he will have the support of thousands of Mexican fans along the 483.06-miles race course, who will try to keep the No. 10 Mason-built all-wheel drive Ford Raptor at the top of the podium.
THE WIN "THE LUKE" IS MISSING
Luke McMillin, 31, San Diego, has never been able to win the SCORE Baja 500 in the SCORE Trophy Truck, of the few successes he has yet to achieve in the sport, emulating the exploits in the deserts of Baja California of his grandfather Corky McMillin, his father Mark McMillin and his uncle Scott McMillin, who created a unique dynasty in desert racing.
With a pair of SCORE Trophy Truck championships under his belt in 2020 and 2022, "The Luke" already has five wins in the stellar off-road class, so it's time to put his No. 83 Mason-built all-wheel drive Chevy 1500 in the winner's circle at the Baja 500 to capture his first win this season after finishing second in the SCORE San Felipe 250.
TIME TO GET BACK TO TOP FOR TAVO
Gustavo Vildosola Jr, 42, Mexicali, Baja California, won the SCORE Baja 500 in 2016, his only success in this race within the SCORE Trophy Truck, so next week he will try to celebrate again with his people in Mexico on Ensenada's Boulevard Costero.
Tavo will be at the wheel of his No. 21 Mason-built all-wheel drive Ford Raptor, thinking of capturing his eighth success in this class, to reaffirm his status as the Mexican driver with the most wins in "The Monsters of the Desert" and also looking for his first victory of this 2024 SCORE World Desert Championship, after finishing third in the SCORE San Felipe 250.
VILDOSOLA AND JOHNSON, RIVALS TO BEAT
In the SCORE TT Legend class, for SCORE Trophy Truck drivers 50 years of age and older, the Vildósola Racing team is the big favorite, thanks to its drivers, Gustavo Vildósola Sr, 70, Mexicali, Baja California, and Ricky Johnson, 59, El Cajon, Calif., who have a magical streak of 10 wins in a row.
Vildósola Sr and Johnson have won it all aboard the No. 1L AWD Vildosola Racing Ford Raptor (built by Mason Motorsports) in the deserts, mountains, and beaches of the Baja California peninsula, and have won the last two SCORE Baja 500s in the SCORE TT Legend class, as well as the last two annual championships in this class.
ROESELER, THE ACE UP LAWRENCE'S SLEEVE
Larry "Mr. Baja" Roeseler, 66, Boulevard, Calif, is one of the sport's all-time winningest motorcycle and car racers, and for this 2024 SCORE World Desert Championship, he has become the Hall of Fame second driver for 61-year-old Clay Lawrence of Banning, Calif.
Lawrence and Roeseler will be sharing the wheel of the 1 Nine Industries No. 85L Lawrence Motorsports Ford Raptor, aiming for the top of the podium in this SCORE Baja 500, something they nearly accomplished at the SCORE San Felipe 250 in March when they finished second in the class.
METHOD RACE WHEELS QUALIFYING
SCORE Trophy Trucks, SCORE Trophy Truck, SCORE TT Legend and Trophy Truck Spec classes will hold the Method Race Wheels Qualifying session on Thursday, May 30. Starting with at 7 a.m. PT at a private venue, this event is closed to the public.
The Method Race Wheels Qualifying will determine the starting order in those three classes for the race, as this is the first time in history that all SCORE four races will hold a qualifying session.
SCORE Live will air the Method Race Wheels Qualifying through the SCORE website.
Start order for all of the other classes in this race were determined by a random draw for positions within each class.

Ampudia del Team Papas and Beer, está en la búsqueda de una victoria que no ha llegado a su vitrina de trofeos, pero que ha acariciado en años recientes, por lo que contará con el apoyo de miles de fans mexicanos a lo largo de la ruta de 483.06 millas, quien tratará de mantener el Ford Raptor Mason número 10 en lo más alto del podio.
LA VICTORIA QUE LE FALTA A “EL LUKE”
Luke McMillin, de 31 años de edad y de San Diego, California, nunca ha podido ganar la SCORE Baja 500 en los SCORE Trophy Trucks, de los pocos éxitos que le faltan por conseguir en este deporte, emulando las hazañas en los desiertos de Baja California de su abuelo Corky McMillin, su padre Mark McMillin y su tío Scott McMillin, quienes crearon una dinastía única en el Off-Road.
Con un par de campeonatos en los SCORE Trophy Trucks en sus hombros, 2020 y 2022, “El Luke”, tiene ya 5 éxitos en la clase estelar del Off-Road, con lo que es tiempo de poner su Chevrolet 1500 Mason en el círculo de los ganadores en la Baja 500, para capturar su primer éxito de esta temporada, tras finalizar segundo en la SCORE San Felipe 250.

“Tavo” estará al volante de su Ford Raptor Mason número 21, pensando en capturar su octavo éxito en esta clase, para reafirmar su status como el piloto mexicano con más triunfos en “Los Monstruos del desierto” y también buscando su primera victoria de este Campeonato Mundial del Desierto 2024 de SCORE, tras finalizar tercero en la SCORE San Felipe 250.
VILDÓSOLA Y JOHNSON, RIVALES A VENCER
En la clase SCORE Trophy Trucks Legend, para pilotos de 50 años o más, el equipo Vildósola Racing es el gran favorito, de la mano de sus pilotos, Gustavo Vildósola Señor, de 70 años de edad y de Mexicali, Baja California, y Ricky Johnson, de 59 años de edad y de El Cajón, California, quienes cuentan con una racha mágica de 9 triunfos en fila.
Vildósola Señor y Johnson lo han ganado todo a bordo del Ford Raptor Mason número 1L en los desiertos, montañas y playas de la península de Baja California, sumado a que han ganado las dos últimas ediciones de la SCORE Baja 500 en los SCORE Trophy Trucks Legend, al igual que los últimos dos campeonatos anuales en esta clase.
ROESELER, EL AS BAJO LA MANGA DE LAWRENCE
Larry “Mr. Baja” Roeseler de 66 años de edad y de Boulevard, California, es un fuera de serie de este deporte, no por nada es uno de los más ganadores en la historia, tanto en motocicletas, como en carros, quien en este Campeonato Mundial del Desierto 2024 de SCORE se ha vuelto en el relevo de lujo de Clay Lawrence, de 61 años de edad y de Banning, California.
Lawrence y Roeseler estarán compartiendo el volante del SCORE Trophy Truck Legend número 85L de la marca 1 Nine Industries, pensando en estar dentro de lo más alto del podio en esta SCORE Baja 500, algo que casi logran en la SCORE San Felipe 250 de marzo, al finalizar segundos en esta clase.
VAN POR LA “POLE”
El jueves 30 de mayo se realizará la calificación Method Race Wheels para los SCORE Trophy Trucks, SCORE Trophy Trucks Legend y Trophy Truck Spec, iniciando con prácticas desde las 7 de la mañana en una sede privada, recordando que en este evento no se permitirá el acceso a espectadores.
De esa manera se definirá el orden de arranque en esas 3 clases para la carrera, siendo esta la primera vez en la historia que todas las fechas de SCORE contarán con esta actividad, con lo que se busca generar mayor derrama económica en las sedes de los eventos, como San Felipe y Ensenada.
La calificación Method Race Wheels será transmitida en vivo por las cuentas oficiales de SCORE en Facebook y YouTube, con la opinión de Austin “Fish” Farner y Nick Isenhouer desde los estudios de SCORE en El Cajón, California.
